Abstract

Technological developments in the Era of Industrial Revolution 4.0 increased internet users in Indonesia. Social media is one of the most popular services visited by internet users in Indonesia. This study discusses potential threats from online petition platforms and their influence on public policy. Online petitions have become an alternative medium of social movements in the era of digital democracy, where their influence in public policy needs to be studied, because there is no formal regulation. This research was conducted with descriptive qualitative methods. The results of this study can be seen that the effect of online petitions on public policies is in the form of intermediate and ultimate influence, depending on the tactics and narrative forms used by petitioners. Meanwhile, potential threats arise related to the online petition function and credibility of the service provider
